But for Covid, presentation of the trophies to the 2021 winners would have taken place at the Guild’s Industry Dinner in October last year. With the dinner cancelled the next choice was the February show but not all could make it. And so we found ourselves on a beautiful new campsite in the heart of North Wales.

By sheer chance, the winner of the John Wickersham award for Video Journalism, Andy Barnett had booked a weekend away at a campsite just a mile or so from where the winner of the Douglas King award for written Journalism, Judy Smith, lived. What’s more the campsite was within an hour or so of our chairman’s home.

The time was set and the presentations made. The sun shone brightly, despite the bitter wind. A log fire in the communal seating area kept us warm, not to mention to those who indulged in barista coffees and bacon sandwiches!
